Concert Band FAQ
When does concert band take place?
Northwest High School has two concert bands comprised of 10-12th grade students. Auditions for concert bands takes place during school hours in the spring and seat placements take place the week of first term finals in October. Students will meet with their band and directors the remainder of the year for their first class of the school day.
When does the concert band perform?
The Northwest Wind Symphony and Northwest Concert Band will perform at various concerts and festivals throughout Iowa. Directors will provide details as schedules are finalized for each event. Be sure to check the calendar page for upcoming events.
Both the Northwest Wind Symphony and the Northwest Concert Band will have three school performances per year. They take place in early December, late February, and early May. Please watch the calendar for details.
What should students wear for performances?
For concert band, students are asked to provide their own black and white formal wear. Students may wear a dress, provided that it is goes past the knee when the student is seated, or may wear black pants and a white shirt. Neck ties and black suit coats are encouraged.
Acceptable concert attire:
Black suit with a white shirt and a tie
Black slacks with a white shirt and a tie
Black dress shoes
Black dress that extends beyond your knees when seated and covers your shoulders
Unacceptable concert attire:
White polo shirt
Black jeans or leggings
Torn or distressed clothing
Black sneakers or athletic shoes
White shoes
Short skirt that expose your knees when you sit
Tops that expose your shoulders
