Northwest High School
Color Guard
Color Guard is a performance art of dance, flag spinning, and using other props to tell a story to music. The Northwest Guard has two seasons, Fall Color Guard and Winter Guard.
Auditions
Auditions for the fall guard are in April and winter guard auditions are typically held in November. Anyone is welcome to audition.
Fall Color Guard
In the fall color guard members perform as part of the marching band program spinning flags, rifles, and sabres while moving on the field. Shows take place at halftime during home football games and on the weekends where they travel with the band to competitions. The color guard rehearses weekly on Tuesdays at 6:00 pm, in addition to daily marching band rehearsals.
2024-25 Recommended Band Donation
To ensure the ongoing success of our band program, we kindly request a donation of $125 per student. While the school district financially supports many aspects of the band program, there are numerous expenses that are not fully covered. Your contribution will help bridge this gap and provide our students with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. Your generosity allows us to provide an exceptional musical education for our students, covering costs such as marching shoes and gloves, marching band props, section and ensemble clinicians.
While the recommended donation is $125, every donation makes a difference. We understand that circumstances vary for each family. If a donation at this level is not feasible at this time, any contribution you can make is appreciated. If you are able and willing to contribute beyond this amount, your generosity will help to provide for students in need. In any case, we appreciate whatever contribution you can make. You can find additional information here.
Traveling with the Royal Brigade
Traveling with the Royal Brigade can be one of the most fun and exciting experiences of a band member’s high school career. Whether it’s across town or across the country. Please see the rules and expectations below.
Winter Color Guard
Waukee Winter Guard is a combined activity that includes students currently in grades 9-12 at both Waukee and Northwest High Schools. In the winter color guard performs indoors to recorded music, still spinning and dancing, on a large colorful floor tarp. The Iowa Indoor Marching Arts (IIMA) is the organizing body for competitions.
