What to Bring

  • Under-uniform clothes: students must be wearing their under uniform clothes when they get on the bus. They may wear other things over the top of these for the bus ride, but they will be dressing in a parking lot immediately after they arrive in Sioux Falls.

  • Everything they need to perform the show including instrument, mutes, reeds, valve oil, sticks, mallets, guard equipment, etc.

  • School appropriate clothes to change into on Saturday after our performance along with clothes for Sunday.

  • Money for three meals (or two meals if they bring a sack lunch for Saturday) - see Meals section below for details.

  • Sleeping bag and pillow, along with appropriate sleeping accommodations, such as an air mattress or a sleeping pad.

  • Appropriate pajamas.

  • Toiletries (may include a toothbrush, mouthwash, comb or hair brush, contacts and contact solution, shampoo, body wash or bar soap, towel, shower shoes, etc.)

  • Homework as necessary for the bus ride.

Loading procedure

When students arrive at Northwest on Saturday, please do the following:

  1. Load all wind instruments onto one of the four trucks.

  2. Load all sleeping bags, ground pads, and any bag you will not need during the day under one of the buses. NOTE: Anything loaded under the bus will not be accessible until we reach the University of Sioux Falls, so plan accordingly.

  3. Wait in the north band room for further instructions.

Event Information

Find event information on the Festival of Bands Website.

Admission to the Field competitions is by wristband only. Admission fees are $15 for adults, $5 for students, and children age 5 and under are free. Wristbands can be purchased in advance at all Lewis Drug locations in Sioux Falls and Brandon beginning Monday, September 19th. On the day of the Festival, wristbands can be purchased from volunteers at the Parade and Howard Wood Field.

For those of you who can’t attend in person, Festival of Bands will be live-streamed! Visit www.festivalofbands.com for details.

Gym Stay

After finals, the band will be staying in the gym at the University of Sioux Falls. All male students will sleep on one side of the gym while all female students will sleep on the other side. The adults will sleep in the middle separating the two groups. Students will have access to the locker rooms and are encouraged to shower before going to bed. Electrical outlets are often in short supply in gyms, so you might want to make plans with your friends to have a power strip or two with you.

Sunday

After packing and cleaning up at USF, we will make a stop for lunch in Council Bluffs. We will return to Northwest High School around 3:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
